Free anime RPG, free-to-play, free right now, no strings attached. That is not a typo three times. Neverness to Everness is live on PC, and there are three legitimate routes into its supernatural city.

01 / The game

So what actually is this game?

Neverness to Everness is a free-to-play open-world action RPG from Hotta Studio, the team behind Tower of Fantasy. Built in Unreal Engine 5, it drops you into Hethereau: a modern city where the ordinary and supernatural share a postcode.

You investigate “anomalies” with Esper abilities, swap between three characters in combat, drive through the city, and somehow still find time to run a café between story beats. It launched in China on April 23, 2026, then globally on April 29. The standalone launcher and Epic Games Store are live now; Steam follows on July 22.

The hook is not just the city. NTE drops the genre’s dreaded 50/50: reach character pity and you get the featured character.

That guarantee is a genuinely different deal. Most gacha games make players flip a coin on their most valuable pulls, then grind toward a second guarantee after losing. Here, hitting pity at around 90 pulls awards the featured character without the coin toss.

The reception has not been entirely clean. Community criticism around AI-generated art and video in promotional material deserves mention; at least one creator publicly walked away from a partnership over it. Beyond that controversy, the game has found an active audience of streamers, build-crafters and players debating rotations and character rankings.

Versus

Ananta comparisons, explained

Both are urban, open-world anime RPGs with vehicle chases. The play styles split sharply: NTE uses three-character swaps, shared cooldowns and chained reactions; Ananta leans toward single-character combos. NTE also guarantees its featured character where the traditional model uses a 50/50.

Quick verdict

Want to play now? Use the launcher or Epic. Want achievements and your Steam friends list? Wishlist it and wait until July 22.

Download from the official three. Nowhere else.

Search results include unofficial “free unlocked” listings. Ignore them. Use the official launcher, Epic, or Steam. Anything asking for unusual registration before serving an installer should be closed.

03 / Hardware check

Can your PC actually run it?

The minimum is an i7-10700, GTX 1660 and 16 GB RAM. Recommended hardware climbs to an i7-12700, RTX 3060 and 32 GB RAM. The file size changes with patches, so reserve 90 GB rather than betting on the smallest figure.

Hethereau streams a huge amount of world data. A hard drive means texture pop-in and stutter whenever traversal gets fast.

If you are right on the edge

  1. 01
Drop shadows and draw distance first.

They carry a high frame-time cost with comparatively little visual loss during combat.

  2. 02
    Close memory-heavy apps.

The 16 GB minimum assumes the memory is actually free, not shared with dozens of browser tabs.

  3. 03
    Check the destination drive.

Many pre-built PCs default large installs to a secondary hard drive even when Windows lives on an SSD.

Not sure what is inside your PC? Press Win + R, type dxdiag, and read the CPU, RAM and GPU from the System and Display tabs.

04 / The business model

Is it actually free?

Yes. It is not a trial with a paywall hiding in chapter three. The main story, map and playable roster are available without an upfront purchase.

Full story and map

No purchase required to finish the campaign or explore Hethereau.

Featured pity

Around 90 pulls, with no 50/50 coin toss between you and the featured character.

Optional spending

Cosmetics and outfits create the pressure points; core story progression does not.

The catch is cosmetic. Outfits appear behind pull milestones at 50, 120 and 200 pulls. That is still a monetization system worth understanding, but it does not gate the ending or lock the city behind a credit card.

05 / Beyond combat

Why Hethereau is worth exploring

Many gacha RPGs treat the open world as wallpaper behind combat. NTE gives its city more to do. You can fish, buy an apartment and run a café between anomaly investigations. Combat still sits at the center, but the spaces between fights have an identity.

01Three-character combat

Share cooldowns, swap quickly and chain elemental reactions.

02City traversal

Run, climb, swim and drive through Hethereau instead of moving between corridors.

03A life between missions

Fish, furnish an apartment and operate a café when the city is not ending.

It is still a gacha grind underneath. The difference is that its diversions feel like a genuine complement rather than a checklist pasted over the map.
